Bennett, 75, of Orleans, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Spectrum Health Downtown Campus in Grand Rapids. Virginia Maybelle Henning was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Vickeryville, the daughter of Clyde and Violet (Claycomb) Henning. She attended school in Ionia and went on to attend beauty school. She married Hugh R. “Did” O’Donnell, July 6, 1943, in North Carolina and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1989. Virginia married Bob E. Bennett on June 14, 1991, in Ionia and he survives. Mrs. Bennett liked to ride her golf cart, cook and read. She also loved garage sales and music. She really enjoyed family and friends, her grandchildren and doing volunteer work, sharing her faith with others talking about God’s kingdom. Virginia was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Ionia for over 35 years. Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband, Bob; four sons, William P. O’Donnell, of Hubbardston, Michael O’Donnell, of Middleville, Daniel O’Donnell, of Orleans, and Joel O’Donnell, of Orleans; three daughters Mrs. George (Carol) Meyers, of Ionia, Mrs. Douglas (Terrie) Trann, of Belding, and Mrs. Randy (Linda) Sherman, of Manchester, Tenn.; one step-son, Robert (Cyndi) Bennett, of Orleans; one step-daughter, Beth Perry, of Orleans; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her step-mother, Marion Richards, of Adamsville, Tenn.; one niece, Patty O’Donnell Foust, of New Jersey; one nephew, Tom O’Connell, of New Jersey; special friends, Katie Corkwell, of Roscommon, Marion Badrick, of Grand Rapids, and Margaret Swainston, of Lyons. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and first husband, Hugh; by one son, Brian O’Donnell; one grandson, Brian Paul; one great-granddaughter, Keeley Ann Hughes; and her step-father, Willis S. Richards. Visiting hours for Virginia M. Bennett will be 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday at Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Ionia, with Michael McLenithan officiating. Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery in spring.
