Bennett died at his home, 825 Broas street, Saturday, January 27, aged seventy-five years and nine months. He had been a resident of the city about three years. He formerly was in North Carolina in the lumbering business and while there suffered a slight stroke of paralysis. He also resided for some time in Newaygo and came here with his wife and daughter, Edith. He was a veteran of the Civil war, and served his country well. While living in Newaygo he joined the Masonic lodge there and that order gave a Masonic burial in the Newaygo cemetery Wednesday, where his remains were taken. A funeral service was held at his late residence here Tuesday. Rev. A. J. Blair officiated and Mrs. Edith Berry and Clayton Knapp sang, accompanied by Miss Marguerite Lamb. Several members of the local Masonic lodge were present. His remains were accompanied to Newaygo by his wife, daughter, Edith, and son, Horace Bennett, of Flushing, Mich.
