Bennett - IONIA - Carl L. Bennett, 84, of Berlin Twp. died Tuesday evening at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1911 in Berlin Twp., the son of George and Nettie (Goodenough) Bennett. He attended Benedict School, was a graduate of Ionia High School and Michigan State University with a degree in Soil Science. He was married to the former Helen Rowley on June 7, 1934. The couple lived in the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin and moved back to the Berlin Twp. in 1958 where they have lived since. He was employed for most of his working life as a sales representative in the paint, fertilizer and monument industry. He was a life member of the Ionia Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Helen; two sons, Carl (Joanne) Bennett, of Haslett and Russell Bennett, of Panama; eight grandchildren: Mark, Tom, Steven, Pattie and Russell Jr. Bennett, Elizabeth Howell, Craig Wandel and Elaine Edwards; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Beverley Wandel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Cook Funeral Home with Rev. David Flagel of Berlin Center Church officiating. Interment will be in Balcom Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Rich St. Chapel. The Ionia Elks Lodge will have a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday (all Elks are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m.). Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Envelopes are available at the Cook Funeral Home." Pallbearers were Mark, Russell, Jr., Thomas, Steven, Richard Bennett, and Craig Wandel. Honorary Pallbearers were William and Robert Bennett.
