BENNETT - IONIA - Harriet E. Bennett, 79, of 701 Bennett Road, Ionia, died unexpectedly at her residence Friday afternoon. Born in Berlin Township Sept. 23, 1905, she was the daughter of Vernon and Nettie Simmons and was a lifelong resident of Berlin. She graduated from Ionia High School with the Class of 1923 and was married to William Seigel Bennett on Nov. 14, 1928, in Berlin Township. She was employed for several years as deputy treasurer of Ionia County. He preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1956. She was a member of the North Berlin Aid Society and of LeValley United Methodist Church. Surviving her are a daughter, Margaret Jean Bennett, of Ionia; and two sons, Richard S. and William V. Bennett, also both of Ionia; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A daughter, Mary Jane, preceded her in death in 1941. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willis Braun officiating. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial has been established for the March of Dimes." Per IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, Tuesday, May 14, 1985, p 2: "Area obituaries - HARRIET E. BENNETT - IONIA - Harriet E. Bennett, 79, of rural Ionia, who died Friday, were held Monday at 1 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willis Braun officiating. Organist was Josephine Barna. Burial was in Balcom Cemetery, with Robert, David, Chris, and Rance Bennett, Carl Simmons and Steven Adams as pallbearers. Following graveside services, lunch was served to family and friends at the family home on Bennett Road."
