Bennett, 81, f Lyons, passed away Dec. 13, 2020. He was born Dec. 10, 1938 in Lyons, Michigan, the son of Ray S. and Lucile W. (Raglin) Bennett. James married Bonnie Ross Sept. 3, 1960, in Lyons. He was a Navy Veteran serving June 1956-November 1950. James worked for General Motors as a machine setter for man years until retiring in 1991. After retirement he started working for Ionia Public Schools as a custodian sub for 14 years. He was well known for his irises that he raised and sold at flea and farmers markers. He donated all the irises at Green View Point Park. He was an avid card player. James volunteered placing flags for veterans at Lyons Cemetery for many years.He was a past member of theLyons-Muir Jaycees. Surviving are his wife of 60 years Bonnie J.Bennett of Lyons, sons Bryon (Marti) Bennett of Lyons and Michael (Robin) Bennett of Parma, special daughter Alison Irey of Lyons, sisters Barbara (Richard) Kline of Dimondale, Francis Shattuck of Ionia and Vicki (Harry) Brock of Saranac, beloved grandchildren Kasie Bennett, Stacy Gladding, Jade Colvin, Eli Bennett, Jarrod Bennett, Conner Bennett, Jamie Thiemann, special granddaughter Sherrie Mason, great-grandchildren, Renee, Jace, Evan, J.J., Lars, Lily, Gavin, Bentley and Logan, and great-great-grandson Xavyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sunny Bennett and Charles Bennett; sister, Karen Bennett; granddaughter, Brynn Bennett, and great-great- grandson Parker Gladding. A celebration of James's life was held at First Christian Church in Muir, Thursday, Dec.17, at 11 am. with Pastor Greg Gladding officiating. Interment of his ashes with Military honors to take place at Lyons cemetery in the Spring. Visitation was Wednesday 3-7 pm at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Parkinson's Foundation or the charity of their choice.
