Funeral services will be conducted at the home Friday afternoon by Rev. Frank Wa___ , pastor of the Muir Presbyterian church. Burial will be in the Muir cemetery. Mr. Bennett was a native of England and came to Ionia county in the vicinity of Hubbardston with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel John Bennett when he was seven years of age. His father was a shoemaker by trade but the advent of the manufactured products kept the boy following the trade of his father and the lumbering industry which was at full height during his early manhood lured him for a while to that field. He came to Muir to work in the lumber mills and during his spare time began barbering and later opened a shop. A taste of professional life led him to study law and without any aid from a law school he studied the course and wrote a successful examination and in 18__ was admitted to the bar. Nearly 20 years ago he went to West Branch where later he became the prosecuting attorney of Oscoda county and then served for a time as probate judge. He afterwards became the prosecuting attorney for Ogemaw county and resided in Mio. Fifty years ago he married Miss Susie Kendall, who died last March, preceding the October when they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. One year ago in December they returned to Muir and purchased the home of John D. Strachan, where until enfeebled by ill health, he maintained his law office. For years he had been a diabetic sufferer. He was a talented bass singer and sang for years in the Muir Presbyterian church. He also sang in the choirs of West Branch and Mio during his residences there. He was at the time of his death a member of the Mio Methodist Episcopal church and of the Masonic lodge. The children, Mrs. Henry Lott, of East Lansing and Ralph, of Muir; three grandchildren, and one brother Thomas Bennett of St. Paul, Minn., survive. ------------ Ionia County News, 7 Dec 1933 Muir – Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennett of Detroit and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lott of Lansing returned to their homes Sunday after being in Muir for the funeral services of George Bennett on Friday afternoon.
