Benschoter, 93, of 152 Washington, Sunfield, died Thursday at a Portland Nursing home. Born Feb.6, 1896, he was the son of John and Bertilla Bradley Benschoter. He attended High rural school and lived in Sebewa Township he greater part of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War 1 and served in three major battles. He was married to Winnie Snyder in Ionia, while on leave from the Army, on Nov. 8, 1917. They moved to the family farm where they lived until retiring to Sunfield in 1980. Surviving are his wife of more than 71 years, Winnie; three sons, Don of Lansing, Norton of Dallas, Texas, and James Of Sunfield; a daughter ,Mary Lou Duncan of St.Petersburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs.Riley (Anis) Sandborn of Portland. A son, John and granddaughter Delores Benschoter, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. from Mapes-Fisher Funeral Home, Sunfield. Burial will be in East Sebewa Cemetery. A Memorial has been established for the S.P.Y.S. Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home. Additional Comments: East Sebewa Cem.
