Mr. Benschoter by his long residence there is known to everyone living within a radius of many miles of his home, and we have yet to see one of his neighbors who would speak an ill word for this man. This alone is a better tribute that we can give and goes to show that he was well liked and highly respected by all who have been fortunate enough to know him. He was one of Sebewa’s well-to-do farmers and accumulated his fortune by honest toil which has extended over a period of about 40 years, he having settled in Sebewa in ’55 when Michigan was a vast wilderness, and here it was that he toiled day and night in those early days, to clear and settle the farm on which he lived and died. During the past two years he has been ailing, and has had two or three hard attacks of sickness and his last illness together with his extreme age caused his death, which occurred with his loved ones grouped around his bedside as the spirit returned to the One who gave it. Mr. Benschoter was born in Seneca County, Ohio in July of 1833 and was married to Mary Morgan in Portland, August 18, 1861. To this union were born three children two of whom, Ida of Sunfield and John of Sebewa, together with the wife, live to mourn his loss. The funeral was held at the home this afternoon, under the auspices of the Sebewa lodge, I.O.O.F. Interment was made in the Sebewa cemetery.
