She was born Jan. 10, 1921, to the late Walter and Hallie (Durkee) Rieger of Ionia. She was married to William M. Bensinger in 1941. She lived most of her life in Ionia until 2009 when she moved to Norwalk, Ohio, to spend time with her family. She was a neighborhood mother to the Morse Street area kids for many years and always had a place for them to hang out. Serving the First Christian Church DOC as a lifelong member, she was a good Christian. She enjoyed being outdoors, was an animal lover and bird watcher, and truly enjoyed spending time and holidays with her family. She had struggles in life during World War II while her husband was shot down, became a POW and was declared MIA before he was found and returned home. She was a hard worker and strong symbol of strength for her family all of her years. She is survived by two sons, Gary (Gretchen) Bensinger of Traverse City, Michigan and Garold “Bill” Bensinger of Norwalk; brother, Jack Kenney of Sebewaing, Michigan; grandchildren, Gregory Bensinger, Gretchen (Bensinger) Miller, Billie Jo (Bensinger) Kilbride and Brent Bensinger; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John Rieger and Walter (Junie) Rieger, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Deborah (Hawkins) Bensinger. Family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church DOC, 130 Washington St., Ionia, MI, 48846. Pastor Richard Heldrop will officiate. Burial will follow at Balcom Cemetery in Ionia, Michigan.
