Benson, hardware dealer at Saranac, a boy five years old, choked to death just before noon Wednesday. He partly swallowed something, the friends know not what, but are inclined to the opinion that it was a nail, which lodged in the throat, causing his death in great agony. The death of the little Benson boy at Saranac on Wednesday was quite peculiar. It was first thought he was choked by something he had swallowed, but it is now generally believed to be a case of lockjaw. He had been out playing by himself and came in saying he was choking. His jaws soon became set, and he died about half an hour later, having several spasms in the interval. It is said that he pricked his foot several days before with a pin, and to this is ascribed the cause.
