Joseph Bentley, quite well known in this section as a United Brethren preacher, died at his residence, three and one half miles southeast of this place, last Monday morning. He awoke about 3 a.m. and said he was not feeling very well, and would get up and take a dose of panacea, his wife also got up to assist him. After taking the medicine he smoothed out the bed and lay down again, telling her not to sit up, but come to bed. Before she did so he suddenly threw one hand above his head and gasped; Mrs. B. was alarmed and called twice to her son, who was upstairs. When he got to his father’s side he found life had flown. The deceased had been in his usual health, and no cause for his sudden demise is known. Mr. Bentley was 68 years old, of a very retired disposition, and seldom mingled with his fellow citizens, bore an excellent character and appeared quite affable when ever he came in contact with the outside world; he was of a decided literary turn and a good classical scholar.
