H. Bently died at 4 o'clock yesterday morning from the effects of an overdose of morphine. He has been a sufferer for several years from necrosis of the jaw bone, having submitted to several painful operations. He has been unable to be around for a year. Last evening he was suffering intense pain and at about 8 o;clock took an overdose of drug, afterwards telling the members of the family what he had done and when he obtained the drug, which he secreted since last summer. Dr. Joslin was summoned but could not help him. He was 68 years of age and has been a resident of Ionia county for the past 40 years, and was a member of Ionia lodge No. 36, F. & A. M., and of Ionia Chapter No. 14, R. A. M. The funeral will be held from the residence Friday at 2 p.m. ___________ The Ionia Sentinel, Thursday 22 Feb. 1894 page 5 ___________ The funeral of Wm. H. Bentley was held Friday afternoon from the residence on Jefferson street and largely attended. The services were conducted by L. V. Moulton of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. G. K. Jackson, Miss Nettie Jackson and Prof. A. J. Hills furnished music. Ionia lodge, No #36, F. & A. M. attended in a body to the number of 25, and after the services they took charge of the funeral and proceeded to Highland Park, where the Masonic burial services was performed in due order. There were many flowers, one beautiful set piece coming from the Masons. Mr. and Mrs. James Bentley of Grand Rapids and Dr. and Mrs. C. C.
