Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2002

Ned C. Berger, 86, a long-time resident of Ionia, passed away at his home in 
Haines City, Florida, on Friday, Oct. 25, 2002.  He was born in Jenison on 
April 5, 1916.  In 1938, following in his father’s footsteps, Ned opened an 
automobile dealership in Ionia, which became Berger Motor Sales in 1940.  It 
continues to be a family dealership today.

He married Lenore Richardson in 1936.  They were married for 65 years until her 
death in 2001.  Ned’s favorite pastime was golf (he had eight holes-in-one) and 
Lenore became an accomplished golfer, also.  Over the years they enjoyed many 
friendships around the country from their love of the game.

Ned is survived by three children: his son, Ned, Jr. and two daughters, Diane 
Fosnow, of Debary, Fla., and Deborah Sands of Naples, Fla.  He is also survived 
by six grandchildren.
Respecting his wishes there will be no service held.  In lieu of flowers, 
donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Ionia or Good Shepherd 
Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, Fla. 33823.
