Fred Berndt, 86, of North Jordan lake road, died Wednesday evening at Ionia 
manor.  He was a patient for one moth and had been hospitalized for several 
months with an extended illness.

He was born July 20, 1890, in Berlin township of Ionia county, the son of 
Hiram and Mary Earle Berndt.

A life long area resident, he married Edith Beckhold December 23, 1915 at Lake 
Odessa.  He was a life member of the IOOF lodge, a charter member of the 
Thresher’s association of Ohio and did custom threshing for 50 years before 
retiring in 1952.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Audra Jordan of Woodland; one 
son, Lee (Budd) of Sunfield; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Pickens-Koops funeral chapel, with 
Rev. Patrick Neff officiating.  Burial is in Lakeside cemetery.  Memorial 
contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
