The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Monday, March 23, 1953

Herman T. Berndt, 90, a retired Lake Odessa farmer, died Saturday night, March 
21, at Eckert Nursing Home in Ionia.  He had been a patient there for about 
two weeks.  He was born Oct. 8, 1862, in Germany and came to this country with 
his parents at the age of eight.  He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge.

Berndt leaves his wife, Mary; a son, Fred, of Lake Odessa; a daughter, Mrs. 
Bertha Brownell, of Millford; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a 
brother, August, of Boyne City; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Riggles, of Saranac.

The body is at the Pickens funeral chapel, Lake Odessa, where services will be 
Tuesday at 2 p.m.  The Rev. A. T. Pitman will officiate.  Burial will be in 
Lakeside cemetery.
