Berry Passed Away Last Monday After a Very Brief Illness. Mrs. Frances A. Berry, widow of the late Edwin R. Berry a resident of Belding and vicinity for more than sixty years, died at her home in the Third ward last Monday after a brief illness, aged 65 years and seven months. Deceased was born in Oakland county, Michigan and came to Oakfield township with her parents when two years old. Later her parents moved to Cook’s Corners where they resided several years, after which they moved to Grattan Center. On August 25, 1862, she was married to Edwin R. Berry. To this union two children were born as follows: Mrs. Fred Thompson of Otisco and Joe Berry of Houghton, Mich. Besides the two children, Mrs. Berry leaves five brothers and four sisters, as follows: Benedict, Joseph and Lemuel Tower of this city; Dick Tower and Mrs. Cordelia Fisk of Otisco; David Tower of Clairmont, S.D.; Mrs. Permilia Pease of North Branch, Mich.; Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks, of Howard City, and Mrs. Elva Heth, of Lake City. Deceased was a kind, generous and wholesould woman and will be greatly missed by a host of neighbors and friends. Funeral services were held at her residence at 10 o’clock this forenoon, conducted by Rev. N.J. Meyrs, and which were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment in the family lot in the Otisco cemetery. ---- Frances A. Berry, widow of E.R. Berry, late of Co B, 25th Mich. Vol Infty, was born in Oakland county, Michigan, Nov. 21, 1842. She came to Otisco with her parents at an early age and attended the Cook’s Corners school until she began her work as a teacher in the district schools of Otisco. She was married to her late husband Aug. 25, 1862, and after his return from the army in 1865 they became residents of the farm west of Cook’s Corners, where the son-in-law, Fred Thompson, now resides. Both Mr. and Mrs. Berry were charter members of Dan S. Root Post, G.A.R. and W.R.C. and were respectively their commander and president, and both were efficient members therein until they passed away. Mrs. Berry was always a kind hearted, generous neighbor and friend and one who was ever ready with word and deed to give aid and cheer to those who were in need. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Fred Thompson, who lives on the old home farm, and one son, Joe T. Berry of Houghton, Mich., to mourn her loss, besides five brothers, four sisters and a host of friends and neighbors, who, with the Post and Corps, will greatly feel the loss of her presence.
