Besson, 74, of Orleans passed away at home surrounded by his loving family Oct.25, 2010. He was born March 13, 1936 in Copelandswitch, Okla., the son of John and Minnie (Ussery)Besson. Merl married Mary Pickens Dec. 30, 1960 in George. He served eight years in the Navy during the Korean War. Merl worked for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections for 25 years. He was a member of Sheridan American Legion. He loved to be home and around his family. Merl is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Besson of Orleans; sons, John (Denise) Besson of Trufant, Bill (Kathy) Besson of Saranac and Robby (Annie) Besson of Woodard Lake; sister, Patsy Austin of Kansas; grandchildren, Megan (Miguel) Menendez of Texas, Chris Besson of Big Rapids, Trevor Besson and Bryce Besson of Saranac and Jasper Besson of Woodard Lake and two great grandsons, Landon and Aaron. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Verl; sister Frances; and brother-in-law Keith Austin. At his request there will be no services. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home of Ionia.
