Feb. 22, 1017 MARY LEE BESSON 1942-2017 Mary Lee (Pickens) Besson, 74, of Orleans, passed away peacefully in the home where she raised her family, on Feb. 18, 2017. She was born in Ionia Hospital on the 9th of August 1942, to Thomas and Emma (Christensen) Pickens. Mary married her Navy Sailor Merl Besson Dec. 30, 1960. In her younger years, she was involved in 4-H and Youth group at her church. She was a Sunday school teacher at Shiloh Community Church. She loved cooking, gardening and nature. Mary was the neighborhood mom. She was very involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. She enjoyed genealogy and family history. Mary is survived by her sons, John (Denise) Besson of Trufant, Bill (Kathy) Besson of Orleans/Saranac, and Robby (Annie) Besson of Orleans/Ionia; grandchildren Megan (Miguel) Menendez of Tennessee, Christopher (Margaret) Besson of Saranac, Trevor and Bryce Besson of Saranac and Jasper and Dylan Besson of Ionia; great-grandchildren, Landan Besson, Aaron and Sophia Menendez, and Calvin Besson; siblings, Bob (Joanne) Pickens of Indiana, Linda (Gary) Shimmel of Allegan, Jill Pickens of Florida, Walt (Judy) Peacock of Greenville, Sandy Gilliland of Colorado, Al (Shirley) Peacock of Florida and Art (Nancy) Peacock of Vermont; sister-in-law Patsy Austin of Kansas and lea bush of Carson City and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Merl; father, Tom Pickens; mother, Emma (Christensen Pickens) Peacock; step-father, Joe Peacock; brother, Terry Pickens; sister, Betty Lou (Pickens); sister-in-law, Francis (Besson); brother-in-law, Keith Austin and nephew, Bobby Peacock.
