Wayne Betz, 89, of Grand Rapids, and formerly of Belding and Lake Stanton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 21, 2007. Mr. Betz played football while attending high school at Eaton Rapids. He met his wife, Doris through a mutual acquaintance while he was working in Carson City as a truck driver. In 1952 he moved his family to Belding. Mr. Betz’s work career was spent at Fedders Corp. as a purchasing agent. In 1950 Mr. Betz accepted Christ; his life verse was Philippians 1:21: “For me to live is Christ; to die is gain.” Mr. Betz served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Belding and later worked with the Awana program at Northland Baptist Church, where he was a member until his death. He was a person who had the gifts of wisdom and mercy and was known for helping people. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Pastor Ray Barrett; four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Doris, whom he married on Aug.14, 1942; children, Sharon Barrett Kramer and her husband, Richard of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Laraine and Vernon Dunmire of Grand Rapids, Michael W. and Carol Betz of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren, Sarah and Marty Ray, Jennifer and Christopher Becker, Erin and Peter DeGraw, Elizabeth Dunmire, Christian and Lori Betz, Emily and Andy Tyra, Elke and Paul Meek; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, America, Elijah, Annika, Lauren; and nieces and nephews. The service of praise and thanksgiving for Mr. Betz is 11 a.m. Friday at Northland Baptist Church with Pastor David Cvetich officiating. Interment is at 2:30 p.m. at Carson City Cemetery. Friends may meet with Mr. Betz’s family from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford.
