The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, September 30, 2014


Phyllis E. Betz, 88, of Ionia, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014.  She 
was born on November 8, 1925 in Monroe, Michigan, the daughter of Harley and 
Elsie (Hoffman) Hasley. 

Mrs. Betz was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ionia, a member of the 
Lady's Aid Society, Luther Society, and Cart-N-Lobby Hospital Auxiliary.  
Phyllis worked for 14 years at Ionia Public Schools.  She married Elvin Betz on 
November 29, 1946, and he preceded her in death in 2011.  Also preceding her in 
death were her parents; sister, Doris; brothers, William and James. 

Surviving are her 3 sons, Dennis (Susan) Betz of Dexter, Philip (Debra) Betz of 
Grand Rapids, and Gary (Nancy) Betz of Ionia; 5 grandchildren; 6 great 
grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ivan Betz of Georgia; sisters-in-law, Pat Hasley 
of Kentucky and Pat Ryan of Tennessee. 

The Memorial Service will be held at 12 a.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014 at St. 
John's Lutheran Church, Ionia, with Pastor Joe Fremer presiding.  Interment 
will take place at Balcom Cemetery, Ionia.  The family will receive friends 
from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich Street, Ionia.  For 
those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran 
Church, in memory of Phyllis.
