Bever passed away Wednesday evening at his home after many weeks of suffering, at the age of 74 years. Mr. Bever is an old resident of Odessa township and leaves three sons, Clarence of Ionia, Ernest and Galen of Lansing, and Mrs. Lulu White of Ionia. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at the Calvary United Brethren Church with Rev. S. S. Cox, the pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside. Alvin J. Beaver, son of William and Sarah Bever, was born in Odessa township on October 4, 1864, and departed this life August 3, 1939 at his home in Lake Odessa. September 21, 1889 he was united in marriage to Henrietta Gilliland. To this union were born four children: Clarence of Ionia, Ernest and Galin of Lansing, and one daughter Mrs. George White of Ionia. His first wife preceded him in death about 15 years ago. In 1927 he married Angie Shellenbarger who survives him. Early in life he joined the Wesleyan Methodist church, later becoming a member of the Calvary U. B. church in Lake Odessa of which he was a faithful member as long as health prevailed. Besides the widow and four children he is survived by eight grandchildren, three stepchildren and 16 step grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends; one brother and three sisters having preceded him in death. Subsequent Publication: Thursday, August 10, 1939 As mention in last week’s Wave the funeral of Alvin Bever, a resident of Odessa all his life, was held at the Calvary church, Saturday. Besides the widow, children and stepchildren, he leaves many nieces and nephews. He was faithfully cared for during his last illness by his wife. Rev. S. S. Cox, his pastor, preached.
