Belding Banner – Thursday, 14 December 1911
DROWNED AT BALDWIN LAKE
Walter Bicking the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. David Delehanty former 
residents of this city but now residing in Greenville, was drowned in Manoka 
Lake at Baldwin Lake resort Saturday afternoon while skating.  In company with 
Clare Parkhurst, he was skating on the ice, which was three inches thick at 
the shore, but thinner farther out.  The ice broke and both boys were plunged 
into the water.  Parkhurst made a brave effort to save his companion and was 
in the water above his waist for many minutes, but was unsuccessful.  The body 
was recovered in fifty minutes.
