Smyrna Looses a Respected Resident – Widow of Deceased Pastor George Bignell. Mrs. Rosina Bignell, widow of the late Rev. George Bignell, who in the early fifties was pastor of the M.E. church in Ionia, died of endocarditis, at the home of her son, George E. Bignell, in Smyrna, early Wednesday morning, April 15, in her eighty-second year. Deceased was born in Potsdam, N.Y., in 1822, and came to Michigan while a girl in her teens. She was married to George Bignell in 1844, in West Bloomfield, Oakfield county. To this union four children, all boys were born, named respectively in order of age: Charles W., Franklin, Francis H. and George O. All survive her but one, Franklin, who died at the tender age of two years. Rev. George Bignell died in Ionia, Dec. 31, 1858, after a brief but useful service as minister of the M. E. church. Since her husband’s death Mrs. Bignell has lived in Ionia until her sons moved to Smyrna, where she joined them, making her home with one of another of them. She was well known and respected by a large number of the older residents of Ionia city and county. Funeral was held from the home last Friday forenoon at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. A.O. Carman.
