Melvin C. Bingham, age 91, of Palo, passed into his heavenly home on Tuesday, 
April 10, 2007 at Heartland Health Care, Ionia.  He was born June 6, 1915 in 
Ionia the son of Guy Bingham and Cordelia (Luce) Bingham.  

He is survived by one cousin, Gladys Scott of Northville, Michigan; special 
guardians, Rosemary and Jerry Reams, Ionia, plus many special friends.  He was 
preceded in death by his father, Guy Bingham in 1942, his mother, Cordelia 
Bingham in 1954, and also three brothers.

Melvin has been a lifelong resident of Palo, where he was a member of the Palo 
United Methodist Church.  He graduated from high school in 1991 at the age of 
seventy-six and then went on to attend Montcalm Community College.  He loved 
learning opportunities, animals and life in general.  Melvin was 
affectionately known as “The Mayor of Palo” by everyone who knew him and he 
will be missed by the entire town.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday, April 
12th at the Simpson Family Funeral Home, Sheridan, Michigan.  Funeral services 
will be on Thursday, April 12, 2007, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Simpson 
Family Funeral Home, Sheridan.  Officiating will be Rev. Charles E. Cerling.  
Interment will be at the Palo Cemetery, Palo.  For those desiring to do so, it 
has been suggested that memorial considerations can be made to either the Palo 
United Methodist Church or the Palo Community School Library.  The Simpson 
Family Funeral Home is honored to assist with the final arrangements for 
Melvin, as he was very special to all of us also.
