Birdsall, 73, of Barryton, passed away Monday, September 19, 2005 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids. Betty was born March 2, 1932 in Grand Rapids to Albert and Erna Schmalz Anderson. In earlier years she had lived in Grand Rapids and was a clerk at Woolworth’s Department Store. Betty was a kind and gentle person and loved her family and many friends. She was a member of American Legion Post 4406 Ladies Auxiliary, Belding. Betty was married in February 1955 to Robert Birdsall and he preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Heather Birdsall; and brother, Gustav Hazekamp. Betty is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Harold Douglas of Barryton; children, Tom and Shirley Birdsall of Newaygo, Shirley and Davie Moses of Howard City, Robert and Sandy Dine of Rockford, Joe Birdsall and fiancée, Janet, of Greenville, Sue and Paul Byrne of Belding; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Esther Hazekamp of Byron Center. Funeral services are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Interment is in Fairplains Cemetery, Grand Rapids. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Lupus Foundation.
