Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 16 Nov 1936

Funeral services will be attended in Lansing Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock
from the Leadley funeral home for Archie Birkett, formerly of Ionia and a member
of Company I, 34th Michigan volunteers, which went out from Ionia in 1898 to
Cuba to participate in the Spanish American war.

Mr. Birkett had been away from Ionia for more than 30 years, and in recent years
had been a member of the Capitol police.  He is survived by the widow.  He came
to Ionia to work from Muir, where his family resided.

A number of his comrades of the Spanish war veterans here will go to Lansing for
the services.

[Transcriber Note: There are notations on the obituary card that he was the son
of John and Sophia Birkett, and he was buried in Deepdale Cemetery in Lansing.]
