Mr. Birkett had been away from Ionia for more than 30 years, and in recent years had been a member of the Capitol police. He is survived by the widow. He came to Ionia to work from Muir, where his family resided. A number of his comrades of the Spanish war veterans here will go to Lansing for the services.
