He was born in Western New York, Aug. 15, 1822, and was consequently very nearly 77 years old. He came to Michigan in 1836, when only 14 years old, going to work on a farm in Oakland county. In 1842 he came to Ionia county. In 1845 he was married to Miss Ellen Madison, and three years later they settled on the farm where Robt. McKendry now lives, which he took up at the government price of $1.25 per acre. His wife died during the past year. They were not blessed with children. Mr. Bishop enlisted in September, 1861, in Co. E., 1st Eng. & Mech., and served three years. He was a good soldier and an honored and respected citizen, whose death removes another of the living ties that binds us to the pioneer age. Mr. Bishop has known for some time what was liable to be the manner of his death, and had often talked about it. Last night he entered his house, where Mr. and Mrs. Loucks are living as farm tenants, enquired what time it was, and almost immediately fell, being caught by Mr. Loucks. His death was instantaneous. Deceased was a prominent member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and the funeral services will be held at Easton church, at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
