He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Grand Rapids, the son of Stanley and Reva (Hoisington) Bissell. He was married to Betty Christian on Aug. 9, 1936, in Belding. He retired in 1983 after 33 years as a boiler maintenance man at Gibson’s. He was a veteran of World War II, in which he served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW Post 4406 in Belding, American Legion Post 101 in Greenville, and the Moose Lodge in Greenville. He was preceded in death by one grandson. Survivors include his wife, Betty, four daughters, Vonnie Bunting of Greenville, Kathy Bain, Mary DeRosha and Kristie Ritzema, all of Belding; one son, Donald Obersig of Belding; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and three sisters Doris Brown and Jean Cornwell of Greenville and Joyce McKellen of Langston. Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Johnson Funeral Home Belding, with the Rev. C. David Hainer of the First United Methodist Church of Belding officiating. Military services will be conducted by VFW Post 4406 of Belding. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memory Garden. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
