Funeral services for Richard E. Bitner, 41, of Lake Odessa will be Tuesday at 
10 a.m. at St. Edward’s Catholic church at Lake Odessa.  Fr. Raymond 
Moeggenberg will officiate and interment will be at Lakeside cemetery.

Mr. Bitner was dead on arrival at Ionia County Memorial hospital early Saturday 
morning from injuries sustained in a head on crash on Jordan Lake, Lake Odessa.

Born at Jackson December 10, 1932, he was the son of Earl and Martha Friend 
Bitner and a graduate of Jackson high school.

He attended the Federal Aviation Agency training school at Oklahoma City, 
Okla., and had been employed at the Metropolitan Airport at Detroit.

August 15, 1962, he was married to Adda Lea Hyall at Ypsilanti and came to Lake 
Odessa seven years after accepting a position at Capitol City airport at 
Lansing.  He had also worked at the Twin City airport at Saginaw and Bay City.

He was an army veteran having served two years in Germany.  

He was a member of the St. Edward’s Catholic church, president of the Lake 
Odessa Lions club, former member of the Jaycee’s and a coach in Little League 
baseball.

Besides his wife, Adda Lea, he leaves three sons, Eric J., Kurt E., and 
Bartley, all at home; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Hafle, Mrs. Mary Robinson and 
Phyllis Bitner, all of Jackson; three brothers, Charles Jean, and Jim Bitner of 
Jackson.

Rosary will be recited Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Pickens-Koops funeral home in 
Lake Odessa.  A memorial has been established for the Michigan Diabetes 
association.
