Bivins, 47, died Sunday at Central Michigan Community Hospital at Mt.Pleasant. He had been ill for seven months. He lived at Winn for 10 years and his residence was at 8152 Church St.. He had worked in the oil fields as a driller. He was a veteran of World War II for two years in the Artillery overseas and went thru the Italian campaign. He was born in this city, the son of Fred and Margaret Bivins, on Charles St. He was married here December 21, 1947, to Grethel Rockelman and she survives. Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs.Dwight (Mary) Dangier of Mt.Pleasant and two sons, James and Thomas Bivins of Greenville; one step daughter,Mrs Jerry Merchand of Mount Pleasant and one step son, Donald Rockelman of Mt.Pleasant; his father, Fred Bivins of this city; 2 sisters, Mrs.Michael (Lucille) Pendrick of Plainwell and Mrs.Albert (Margaret) Hayes of Grand Rapids, and five brothers, Robert and Carl of this city, Philip of Coopersville, Fred Jr of Grand Rapids and Joseph of this city; five step-children. The funeral service was held at St.Joseph Catholic Church Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Fr.Card officiating and burial was in St.Joseph Cemetery. The Rosary was recited at the Huffman Funeral Home Tuesday at 8 pm. The pallbearers were Roger Abbey, Gerald Halfmann, Ben Corbett, Harold Geisen, John Geisen and Harold Hansen.
