July 22, 1991 MUIR - William A. Black, 67, of 1572 Kelsey Highway, Ionia, long-time Ionia area businessman, died Saturday evening in a Grand Rapids hospital. Born in Ionia Nov. 4, 1923, he was the son of the late Chester Black and Louise Stowell Black. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving 12 years in all, and he remained active in activities and reunions of is former navy unit. He was married to Frances Mackenzie in June 1945 in Philadelphia; she preceded him in death in January 1988. He owned and operated Black's Midway, at Grand River Avenue and M-66, for many years, and later owned and operated the Bungalo Grill on Lincoln Avenue, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Ionia Elks, Saranac American Legion, and Sheridan VFW. Surviving are two sons, Robert and William, both of Ionia; his mother, Louise Black; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. from Hull Memorial Chapel, Muir. A memorial for the Michigan Diabetes Association has been established, in care of the funeral home.
