Allen Black, who for the past year has been gradually failing in health from consumption, died at the residence of Mrs. Hunt Sunday night, passing away peacefully. He was born in Ohio in 1861 and was 36 years old. He came to Belding about seven years ago and entered the employ of the Belding Mfg. Co., and was shipping clerk for several years, continuing with the company when it changed to the Belding Hall Mfg. Co. until unable to work. He lost his wife about a year and a half ago, leaving the care of two bright little girls to him, and now by his death they are made orphan. To the ladies, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Hunt, where he boarded belong much praise for their care and kindness to him during his long illness. He was a member of the Modern Woodman lodge of this city and they cheerfully rendered such assistance as was in their power, the burial service being also under their auspices Wednesday, about fifty attending in a body. Many floral offerings were placed on the casket. Rev. O.J. Golden conducted the service assisted by Rev. R.A. McConnell. The deceased’s mother from Ohio and a brother-in-law, John A. Mann, of St. Louis, were present. He leaves an insurance from the order of Woodmen for $2,000.
