April 11, 1889 INSTANTLY KILLED William Black, a former resident of Ionia, was instantly killed at E. K. Wood's mill, three miles north from Lakeview, on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Black was foreman and engineer for Mr. Wood and was assisting to raise a smoke-stack at the mill, when the tackle broke and the stack fell, striking him across the breast and breaking his neck. The remains were brought to the city Monday morning by County Clerk Place, who went from here Sunday for that purpose, and the funeral was held from the residence of his brother, Robert Black, at Prairie Creek, Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. A detail of Wm. H. Borden Post, G.A.R. consisting of Commander D. L. Nash , Officer of the Day Jennings, Quartmaster Williams, and Comrades Fowle, Brookins, Munger, Giles and Eager, attended the funeral of William Black on Tuesday. He was a veteran of the Thirty Third New York Volunteers. Rev. A. M. Gould officiated. The interment was at Highland Park.
