Bob was born December 31, 1943 at his grandparents’ farm in Carson City to Paul and Jean (Proctor) Blackmer. He graduated from Carson City Crystal High School in 1962 and with honors from Ferris State University of Grand Rapids with an Associates Degree in HVACR. Bob married Sonja Thorp on March 9, 1963 in Ionia. He was a past Mason, and a Phi Theta Kappa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, yard work, cutting wood, and restoring old bikes and furniture. Bob liked sports, especially the Red Wings, Tiger, U of M football and watching his grandkids’ sporting events. He will be most remembered for the love he had for his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Sonja of Hubbardston; three children, Mark (Denise) Blackmer of Greenville, Tim (Maria) Blackmer of Ionia, Robin (Paul) Alvarez of Lansing; eight grandchildren, Kylee, Natalie, and Mason Blackmer, Nicholas, Rachel, and Hunter Blackmer, and Lily and Emma Alvarez; brothers and sisters Patricia (Billy) Jones of Big Rapids, Linda (Rick) Tabor of Grand Rapids, Danny (Karen) Blackmer of Lakeview, Doug (Michelle) Blackmer of Elwell; and Randy (Susan) Blackmer of Spartanburg, S.C. and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extra special friends Jan and Eldon Rohn. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 13 at the Shiloh Community Church in Orleans at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kendall Harger officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Ionia, the American Cancer Society or Carson City Hospital.
