July 11, 1919 ACTIVE S.S. WORKER GOES TO HER REWARD Mrs. R.C. Blair Succumbs to Appendicitis. Church and Home Her Life Work. Children Her Specialty. Mrs. R.C. Blair, whose operation for appendicitis was performed last Wednesday morning died July 4th at about 10:00 o'clock. Death came while the village was beginning its scheduled celebration. But the council had ordered no demonstrations in the block in which the Blair home is located. Mrs.Blair's life was one given exclusively to the church and to her home. For about 30 years she was teacher of the primary class in the Methodist Sunday School here and often had an enrollment of more than forty at a time, once it reached 45. She was superintendent of the Cradle Roll. Very many people of this and other places owe their early Bible training to her splendid ability to draw and hold their attention in childhood. She loved the children and her last work was training the mind of a little grandson. Hundreds of people have wondered in past years at her ability with children. For many years Mrs.Blair was one of the untiring workers in the Ladies' Aid Society and her work at the time of the building and paying for the church was exceeded by none. She had little time for society or social affairs outside of church work. Surely her life was complete in the fullness of a Christian life work well done. OBITUARY Mary M. Littler was born in Du Plains, Clinton County, May 31, 1855 and died at her home in Lake Odessa, July 4, 1919.Her early life was spent in DuPlains, Leslie and Seneca county, Ohio. While in Leslie, she became acquainted with Mr.Blair, and they were married March 31, 1878. After trying two or three places they finally decided to make their home at Lake Odessa coming here in January 1889. Mrs.Blair was converted while living at Muir, Mich., under the preaching of D.W. Parsons and commenced Sunday School work immediately in which chosen work she was extraordinarily successful. For years she was very active in the Ladies' Aid Society and she had been an official member of the church for several years. Whatever work she attempted was always well done. She was especially devoted in her home, her husband and the grandchildren. Many people will mourn her departure. She leaves besides her husband, one sister, Miss Lizzie Littler of Tiffin, O.; one brother Frank Littler, Rives Junction and three grand children who were almost like own children; Mrs.I.A. McKinney, Mrs.R.C. Gohen and Miss Maud Smith of Saginaw. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church, the pastor Rev.D.D. King conducted the service assisted by Rev, Prentice and the church choir sang. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery. CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank the many church friends and neighbors, the ministers and choir, and especially the children for their remembrances, and the Council for its action on the fourth all of which we sincerely appreciate at this time of our deep sorrow.
