BLAKELY Clare H. Blakely, 43, passed away late Saturday night at Pennock Hospital, Hastings, following a long illness. He was born at Lake Odessa, May 12, 1928 the son of Norman and Lera (Foght) Blakely and has resided at Kalamazoo, returning to Lake Odessa when 15 years of age. Clare was a 1946 graduate of Lake Odessa High school and had been employed by the Oldsmobile in Lansing for 23 years as a process engineer. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy January 18, 1946 and served in the European theater. He was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist church, the Men's Brotherhood, past secretary and treasurer of the board trustees, also a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, a member of the choir and director of the junior choir. Mr. Blakely was affiliated with the Boy Scouts and served as Cubmaster; coach and umpire for Little League baseball; and a member and past-president of the Oldsmobile Rocketaires. He married Joy Ann Hampel of Lake Odessa, October 8, 1949. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Bruce, Randall and Kelly; three daughters Gay Lynn, Jayne Ann and Carol Rae, all at home; his mother, Mrs.Lera Stephens of Lake Odessa; three brothers, Rev. Harold Blakely of Pigeon, Hale of McFarland, Wisc.. and Herbert of Lansing a a sister, Mrs. Henry (Hazel) Bos of Kalamazoo. Mr. Blakely reposed at Pickens Funeral Chapel until 11 a.m. on Tuesday when he was taken to the Lakewood United Methodist church where funeral services were held at 1:30. Rev. Wilbur Williams of Jackson officiated with burial in Lakeside cemetery. Contributions to the church memorial fund may be left at Pickens Funeral Chapel.
