Mrs. Walter Blakeslee

Long days, long nights you bore your pain,
Waiting for cure but all in vain'
God saw that you were suffering
And the hills were hard to climb,
And whispered, "Peace be thine." 

Alma M. Hotchkiss was born August 2, 1867 in South Boston, Ionia County and 
departed this life December 15, 1942 at the age of 75 years, four months, 
fifteen days. Her early life was spent at home with her parents where she was 
born.

On Christmas Day, 1889, she was married to Walter Blakeslee of Lowell Township. 
During their early years of marriage they made several residences in or near 
Lowell. They purchased and settled on the Blakeslee homestead forty-three years 
ago, where she lived at the time of her death. 

She suffered a severe stroke six weeks ago and was a patient sufferer and bore 
her pain and affliction with a smile and cheery work for those who tenderly 
cared for her. 

One of the happiest occasions of her life was the celebration of her 50th 
wedding anniversary which was held at their home three years ago, Christmas Day.

She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband; one son, Philo of Lowell; one 
daughter, Mrs. Letha Schwab of Rockford; three grandchildren, Jack, Alma and La 
Verne Schwab, who is now serving in the Army Air Corps in Ocala, Florida; one 
sister, Mrs. Cora Fox, one brother, Ed Hotchkiss of Lowell and many other 
relatives and friends who will miss her in their midst.

Funeral services where held last Friday at the home, Rev. F. E. Chamberlain 
officiating. Interment in Merriman cemetery.
