Bennett lib@dogsbark.com May 17, 2010, 6:41 pm Ionia Sentinel Standard BLANCHARD, MARVIN: IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, Thursday, February 10, 1972, page 2: "DEATHS - MARVIN BLANCHARD - MUIR - Marvin Blanchard, 76, of rural Muir, died Thursday morning at Ionia County Memorial hospital following an extended illness. Born in Osceola county January 6, 1896, he was the son of Irvin and Isadora Blanchard. He attended Central Michigan university, Mt. Pleasant, received his BS degree at Michigan State university at East Lansing and MA degree at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. June 29, 1929, he married Lucy O'Bierne at rural Muir. He was superintendent of schools at Hubbardston from 1924 to 1928 and superintendent at Edwardsburg from 1929 until 1955. He was then a classroom teacher of vocational agriculture at Lapeer from 1955 until his retirement in 1961 after which he did limited farming at the rural Muir farm home. He belonged to the Michigan Educational association, National Education association and the Michigan Association of School Administrators. A life member of St Peters lodge, 106 F&AM at Edwardsburg, charter member of the Edwardsburg Lions club and member of First United Methodist church of Ionia. Surviving besides his wife, Lucy, are two sons, Willard of Vienna, Va., and Burton of Downers Grove, Ill., six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Milton Raab of Reed City and brother, Max Blanchard of Hersey. Mr. Blanchard will be at Shaw-Rivett-Hull funeral home in Muir until 9:30 am Saturday when he will be taken to First United Methodist church in Ionia for funeral services at 11 am. Rev. Charles Fullmer will officiate. Graveside services will be at Edwardsburg cemetery at 4 pm. A memorial has been established for First United Methodist church in Ionia." IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, Monday, February 14, 1972, p. 2: "DEATHS - MARVIN BLANCHARD - Rev Charles Fullmer officiated at funeral services at First Methodist church Saturday at 11 am for Marvin Blanchard, who died Thursday. Organist was Mrs Charles Fullmer. Bearers were Ralph Ganger, Henry Nelson, James Jessop, Viggo Nielson, Dr. Arthur Larson and Stanley Schafer. Committal services were 4 pm at Edwardsburg cemetery with Rev William Amundson of Edwardsburg Methodist church officiating. Family was served a lunch at the Ionia church at noon and a light luncheon following graveside services at the Edwardsburg church."
