She was one of a family of ten children, one sister, Mrs. Augusta Blanchard, of Greenville, being the only surviving member. She was married to James O. Blanchard May 25, 1856 and they were the parents of five children, four of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Harry Hamper, of Aurora, Illinois; Mrs. Nellie Kertz, of Noxon, Montana; Mrs. Fred Pitt and John Blanchard. One son, Carlton, died in Montana in 1926. About sixty-eight years ago they settled on a farm six miles northwest of Ionia where they lived several years. Here tragedy overtook them, for one September day fifty-six years ago a windstorm unroofed a building across the road and carried it into the Blanchard yard where Mr. Blanchard was standing. The roof struck him and he died almost instantly. Mrs. Blanchard sold the farm and with her children took up their residence in Greenville. Twenty-five years ago she moved to Ionia city where she lived a few years, but since that time has made her home with her daughters, Mrs. Pitt and Mrs. Hamper. She was a member of the Methodist church and was baptized at Ionia in 1885. She was very active until two years ago when the shock from a fall and a fractured hip caused her to lose her grip on life, and she gradually failed, death coming to her at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pitt early Sunday morning. Although she had almost reached the century mark her long life had been well spent, one of her most praise-worthy characteristics being her thoughtfulness and kindness toward others. The funeral services were held at the Orleans church Monday afternoon with Rev. F.G. Wright officiating, and Mrs. Arthur Barden furnished the music. The interment was in the family lot in the Orleans cemetery.
