Mr. Blasen left Belding in the fall of 1931 after making this his home for over 20 years. He was delighted with the home at Avilla but was very ill for some time two years ago which resulted in the loss of his left leg, since that time he had not regained his usual health. On April 23 he suffered a stroke. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Weber of Smyrna and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Alberts of Miriam, left here Friday and were present for the funeral Saturday morning at 9 o’clock. They did not know until they arrived there that Mr. Blasen had passed away. Theodore Blasen was the son of Henry Blasen, having been born on the farm near Smyrna June 9, 1861. He was one of a family of 6 children. His sister, Mrs. Josephine Shindorf, of Miriam, is the only one left of the group. He made a home for his parents for many years and it was after their death that he moved to this city and owned a home on Alderman street. His residence was disposed of at the time he entered the home. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Among them are Mrs. Rose Scheid and Mrs. Sofronia Breimayer of Miriam, Mrs. Leonard Weber of Smyrna, Mrs. Henry Rittersdorf of Keene, Theodore Albert, of Miriam and several others in Lansing and Beal City. Mr. Blasen was a devout Christian having been prominent in Catholic circles and a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church. He was never so happy as when he was extending kindnesses to some one with the result that he was very well known. A good friend and neighbor has been taken to his reward.
