All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net July 30, 2010, 2:45 pm The Ionia Standard, Friday, December 29, 1911 Robert Carl Blasen, oldest son of Alderman John Blasen of this city, was taken to the Tuberculosis sanitarium at Grand Rapids on Saturday, December 9th, and passed away there on Saturday, 24th inst., just two weeks, and almost to an hour, after entering for treatment. He was aged 17 years. The father was at the bedside of his son when the spark of life went out, as was also a brother, Joseph, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, who had come on in the hope of seeing his brother once more this side of the closed gate. Deceased was born in this city, his mother being a daughter of pioneer parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Geck, and he had spent his entire life here. He was a young man of very estimable social qualities, and numerous young friends will miss his genial companionship. The funeral was attended at the Church of SS Peter and Paul at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning, Requiem Mass being sung by Rev. Fr. McCarthy, and interment was in Mount Olivet. The carriers were: Frank Abfalter, William Kilmartin, Thomas Duffy and Michael Gazella.
