Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, May 24, 1900

                     Death of Mrs. Emma M. A. Bliss
Mrs. Emma M. A. Bliss, sister of Mrs. Cora Perham and Mrs. George Clark, and 
daughter of Mrs. E. M. Bartlett, died at 5 o'clock Friday morning at her 
home, 127 Lafayette street, after an illness of two months or more. Mrs. 
Bliss was a good woman and her death is mourned. She leaves a family of five 
children - Bert B. Bliss, of Lake Odessa; Mrs. Fannie Phillips and John D. 
Bliss of Odessa township; and Mrs. Jessie Emmons and Robert Bliss of this 
city. She was born in New York state in 1844, and was a worth member of the 
Ionia W. R. C. and the Ionia county Pioneer society. The funeral was held 
from the Church of Christ Sunday at 2 p.m.

The funeral service for Mrs. Emma M. A. Bliss was attended at 2 o'clock 
Sunday afternoon from the Church of Christ, Rev. G. K. Berry officiating. 
There was a liberal attendance of relatives and friends, both the W. R. C. 
and the G. A. R., also Ionia hive, L. O. T. M., being generously 
represented, while a profusion of choice flowers was an expression of 
sympathy and esteem. The music was rendered by Mrs. Eugene Smith, Miss Matie 
Brooks, and Horace Peck and Clarence Winchell, and the carriers were the 
three sons and one son-in-law, Bert B. Bliss, John D. Bliss, Robert L. 
Bliss, and William Emmons. Interment in Highland Park.
