Bliss, 85, of 603 North Jefferson street, died unexpectedly at his home Sunday evening at 6 o'clock. Born October 18, 1871 in New York state, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bliss and had lived in Ionia for the past 20 years. In 1921, he was married to the former Bertha Peterson in Detroit and had lived in Ionia county for the past 36 years. Mr. and Mrs. Bliss resided in their present home for the past four years. A mason and bricklayer by trade, Mr. Bliss was employed by William Morris and Son and the Glenn L. Pierce Construction Co. for a number of years. He retired in 1945. Surviving are his wife, Bertha, two sons, Harry H. Bliss of Grand Rapids, and Walter Bliss of El Monte, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Heckman of Leesburg, Ind. and Mrs. Eva Maxson of Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three half sisters, Mrs. Hazel VanOrder, Mrs. Mabel DeFouw and Mrs. Edith Bradeway, all of Holland and four step-children, Alfred L. Peterson of Crystal, Mrs. Beatrice Dow of Berrien Springs, Mrs. Frances Christensen of Ionia and James Peterson of Muir. Funeral services will be conducted at the Boynton funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 and interment will be in River Ridge cemetery, Belding.
