She was born December 27, 1920 in the Appalachian mountain region near Oakley, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the daughter of Eastman and June (Patrick) Bailey. Fannie came to Michigan in April of 1937 with her siblings, then met and fell in love and married Marion Cary on August 26, 1937, in Elkhart, Indiana. They celebrated 48 wonderful years of marriage and raised five children together. Marion preceded her in death on April 8, 1985. In early 1988, Fannie met Loren Blocher at the First Baptist Church in Lowell, Michigan. On September 16, 1988, they married and celebrated almost 26 beautiful years together. Over the past 8 ½ years, Fannie has suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Her beloved husband, Loren, has been so devoted to her and since she was admitted to the nursing home almost four years ago, he would go to visit her twice a day, making sure she was always eating properly and just being a wonderful companion to her. Words cannot express how much Loren's love has touched all of our lives. Fannie found great joy in her love of the Lord and the love she had for all of her family. She loved nothing more than to make huge Sunday dinners after church and some of her family's fondest memories were meals that she would make straight out of the garden. We didn't have four or five course meals, we had more like 20 course meals! The grandchildren also always loved staying with Grandma and having green tea and cookies. She especially loved baking pies and making candy at Christmastime. Fannie loved gardening, canning, baking and sharing wonderful annual traditions with the family such as going to family church camp in Manton, going to all of the local fairs, parades, and especially going to garage sales! After marrying Loren, they loved to travel in their 5th wheel trailer, stargazing at the observatory and visiting Frederick Meijer gardens. Fannie was currently a member of the First Baptist Church in Lowell, but had also attended Galilee Baptist Church in Saranac, as well as the Free Methodist Churches in Belding and Saranac. She is survived by her loving husband, Loren Blocher of Lowell. Children Patricia Cary of Lake Odessa, Ronald (Sue) Cary of Eau Claire, Michigan, Douglas Cary of Ionia and Kathy (Yassine) Nhaddou of Lowell. Step-sons William (Emily) Blocher of Washington, Loren (Patricia) Blocher of Washington and Thomas Blocher of California. She is also survived by 10 Grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great granddaughters, 7 step-grandchildren, 7 step- great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion, daughter Mary Lou, grandson Brian Johnson, Brothers Adam, Ellis and Maston Bailey and Sisters Edna Fisher, Hazel Oatten, and Evie Bailey, half-sister Ida Whitaker and half- brother Johnny Bailey. A celebration of Fannie's life will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac with the Pastor James Frank and Pastor Byron Davey officiating. Interment immediately following the funeral service at South Boston Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday 4-7 p.m. at the Funeral home and on Thursday 1 hour prior to services.
