Bloomer, the well known old soldier and respected resident of the Fourth ward, died suddenly Monday night at his home, 433 Jones street. He has not been in good health for some time. He was taken suddenly ill last night and Dr. Slocum was sent for; when he arrived Mr. Bloomer was dead. Heart disease was the immediate cause of death, and he passed quietly away while sitting in his chair. Deceased was born in 1839, in Ohio, being almost 61 years of age. He was married 33 years ago, and of the union there were four children. Besides the widow, three children are living—Misses Stella and Ella, and Edward Bloomer. Mr. Bloomer stood well as a member of Wm. H. Borden post, No. 211, G.A.R., and that noble army of old veterans whose numbers are slowly but so surely growing less, is once more called upon to pay last tributes of respect to one of their number. The funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Baptist church. The funeral service for the late Theodore S. Bloomer, was attended from the First Baptist church this afternoon. Besides the relatives a large number of friends, nearly 50 of Wm. H. Borden post No. 211, G.A.R., and a good representation of the W.R.C., were present. Rev. D. A. Jewell officiated and spoke of deceased as a true comrade, faithful to his duty and to his God. Miss Hearsey, Miss Benedict, and Miss McMullen sang. The interment was in Highland Park cemetery. Mr. Bloomer was born in Ravenna, Ohio, March 17, 1839. He came to Michigan in 1859, settling in Hillsdale county, where he enlisted August 15, 1862. He served two and one-half years in the civil war, until its close. He went out with Co. A. Eighteenth Michigan infantry. He became a member of Wm. H. Borden post Dec. 3, 1884, and died Jan. 22, 1900. In 1895 he was junior vice commander. The post record was read by Adjutant O. H. Dean. Mr. Bloomer was one of three brothers who went to the front, one of the other two being here to attend the funeral. It was in 1866 that deceased was married, and the bereaved widow and three children survive him. The G.A.R. conducted the service at the grave, where the remains were carried by Comrades Cook, Brookins, Sanderson, Guernsey, Scott and Covert.
