Dec. 6, 1962 NORTON BLOOMER Private memorial service for the family and close friends of Norton Bloomer was held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at First Christian Church with the Rev. Floyd Emshwiller officiating. Mr. Bloomer is survived by his father, E. C. Bloomer of Ionia; and four sisters, Mrs. Barbara Hawley of Portage, Wis., Mrs. William Binder of Chicago, ILL, Mrs. Harry Carroll and Mrs. Sara Jane Carpenter of Ionia. Interment will be at Balcom cemetery. Bones Found Near Ionia December 1 Now Identified Sgt. John Amthor, commanding officer of the Ionia State Police post, said Wednesday morning of the remains discovered December 1, has been made by the crime detection laboratory in East Lansing. Dr. C. W. Muehlberger of the lab reported "I believe there is no question whatsoever these are the remains of Norton Bloomer." In addition to other evidence found at the scene, Muehlberger cited the teeth and jaw of the deceases as positive identification. Bloomer, a 52 year old taxi driver at the time of his disappearance, had been missing since December 10, 1956. The remains were discovered by Dale Shattuck of Ionia while rabbit hunting east of the city dump in the area between the C and O and Grand Trunk railway tracks. Also found near the scene was a .22 calibre rifle which had been purchased by Bloomer prior to his disappearance, Sheriff Peter Van Vleck and State Police reported.
