Ionia Sentinel-Standard – Tues. Dec. 29, 1987

Bessie May (Bluemly) Whipple, 99, formerly of Ionia, died Dec. 26 in Grand 
Rapids.

She was the daughter of George and Bertha (Freeman) Thayer and was born in 
Ionia County Sept. 24, 1888. She was married to Fred Bluemly in 1913 in Ionia, 
he died in 1930.

She was married to Harry Whipple in 1936. He died in 1968.

She was a 50-year plus member of the First Christian Church of Ionia.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. E. K. (Doris) McKellar of Ft. Collins, 
Colo., Nila Dreger of Kentwood, and Avis Farrington of Seattle, Wash.; four 
granddaughters and eight great grandchildren.

Complete funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday from the Rich Street 
Chapel of Cook Funeral Home with the Rev. F. Michael Valentine officiating. 

Burial will be in Woodard Lake Cemetery.

A memorial for First Christian Church’s Memorial Fund has been established in 
care of the funeral home.
