The dead man was Walter W. Bollinger, 49, 417 Morse street, Ionia, who died in the Ionia County Memorial hospital at 8:45 Thursday night about two and a half hours after his automobile and a truck had collided on M-21 east of the Harry Hendrickson home just west of Muir. Bollinger, a salesman was returning to his home in Ionia driving west on M- 21. The truck driven by Virgil I. Mohler, 29, of Sheridan, Route 1, was traveling east of the Hendrickson home. The crash occurred at 6:20 p.m. the Mohler truck turning over north of the pavement and the Bollinger car coming to a stop on the pavement several rods away. Brought to Hospital Bollinger was brought to the hospital here suffering from multiple injuries. Undersheriff Michael Brindle investigated the accident and reported that it was snowing at the time and that the pavement was slippery. He was able to get a statement from Mohler but it was impossible to question Bollinger who died without regaining consciousness. Before coming to Ionia, Bollinger and a brother were in business at Smyrna. The body was taken to Carson City, near where the family lived at one time. Coroner Harry Myers was called into the case upon the death of Bollinger, the 13th death of the year. Bollinger was born January 29, 1910, in Ferris Center the son of John and Eva M. Bollinger, formerly of Alma. He moved to Ionia county 18 years ago at the time of his marriage to the former Rose Roach of Hubbardston. He had lived in the area most of the years since then. Two years ago he moved to Ionia city. Surviving are the wife, Rose; two sons, Bruce, 17, and Bernard, 16, at home; two brothers, Orville of Orleans and Ernest of Pensacola, Fla.; and four sisters, Mrs. Fred Oswald of Saginaw, Mrs. Joseph Lavey of Romulus, Mrs. Walter Cook of Alma and Mrs. Richard Simmons of Gladwin. Funeral services will be conducted from SS. Peter and Paul church in Ionia Monday at 9 a.m. with interment in Hubbardston Catholic cemetery. The body will be removed to the home in Ionia Saturday where it will repose until just before the services Monday.
