He was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Battle Creek, the son of Louis W. and Lila Hopkins Bookie. He worked at Fisher Body in Lansing for 14 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Ionia. Surviving are his wife Arlene; three sons, Phillip, Victor, and Steve Bookie, all of Ionia; six grandchildren; his mother, Lila Bookie of Ionia; and a brother, Elmer Bookie of Saranac. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis W. Bookie, in 1982. Funeral and committal services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church, Ionia, with the Rev. Jim Houseman officiating. Organist will be Jackie Lewis and soloist will be the Rev. Ralph Barton. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Benjamin, Jake and Eric Bookie, Dan Tuller, Larry Milton and George Yourgavidge. The family will be at Cook Funeral Home on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial for Temple Baptist Church has been established, in care of the funeral home.
