Boughey, 77, retired veteran of the Grand Trunk railroad and a resident of Ionia for many years, died Sunday evening at 9 p.m. after a two year illness. Born November 12, 1875 in England, Boughey came to Lowell with his wife and five-year old daughter, in 1905. He moved to Ionia a short time later and in 1910 was employed by the Pere Marquette at the shops in Ionia as a repair man. He left that work four years later and became janitor for the National Bank and then became associated with the Grand Trunk railroad in 1920. A painter and paper hanger by trade Mr. Boughey became a naturalized American citizen in 1919 before the late Judge F.D.M. Davis. Since 1915 the Bougheys have lived at 450 Lafayette street. Active in fraternal organizations Boughey was a charter member of the Ionia Loyal Order of Moose and a life member of the Ionia Masonic Lodge No. 36 and a member of the chapter 14 of the Royal Arch Masons and a life member of the Knight Templars of the Ionia Commandery. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Florence Smith of Grand Rapids, and two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home with the Rev. Court Adams officiating. Burial will be at Muir cemetery and grave services will be directed by the Masonic order. July 1, 1954 Funeral services for Charles E. Boughey, who died Sunday evening were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Stone-Kauffman funeral home with the Rev. C.O. Adams officiating. The bearers were James Powers, Blaine Laden, William Storch, Earl Curtiss, Bernard Gruschinski and Joseph Reghie. Ionia Masonic lodge acted as honorary escort and conducted the Masonic burial service at the graveside. In charge were Bert Fox. W.M., Blaine Laden, S.W., Bernard Gruschinski, J.W., and Wayne Cline, Chaplain. Those who attended the services from away were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rinks of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Gertrude Read, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Reed, Mrs. Horace Weeks, Victor Weeks and Arthur Biggs of Lowell, Charles Read of Flint, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Biggs of Saranac and Mr. and Mrs. Byron Hansbarger of Charlotte.
